Mr.Kaplan wants apologies from Narendra Modi

Demonize, Genocide - and apologize

Demonize, Genocide - and apologize ...

In a remarkable three terms as chief minister, he (Narendra Modi) has never apologized, has never demonstrated regret of any sort for 2002; He (Narendra Modi) can’t or won’t apologize for 2002. (via India’s New Face – The Atlantic (April 2009italics mine).

What an idea, Sirjee!!

Are you suggesting Kaplanbhai, that Mr.Modi can get away with the Gujarat riots, by making a proforma apology? You mean, Bhai-Kaplan, Narendra Modi should make an apology – like the false apologies, made or not made, after the genocide of Jews, Native Americans, or the Roma Gypsies or the Australian aborigines, and then get on with life.

Of all the arguments that Kaplan makes in this rather poor hatchet job on Narendra Modi (but mostly India), this one is the weakest and the worst. What Robert Kaplan has done is use Narendra Modi as a human shield to attack India – secure in the belief that ‘no one will dare defend Narendra Modi’.

American media affected by recession

You think Indians will accept this from Narendra Modi?

You think Indians will accept this from Narendra Modi?

Mr.Kaplan, you don’t know Indians well enough.

These false apologies will have no effect in India. Indians don’t want empty apologies – and will neither render one. Kaplanjee, a common derisive Indian response to apologies is अँगरेज़ तो चले गए लेकिन, येह सॉरी शब्द यहीं छोड़ गए (the English have left, but they have left behind this word sorry).

What Indians will accept is a change – complete and total change in behaviour! Indians will give a second chance to even criminals and robbers – without an apology!!

It appears that the shrinking ad sales is making a difference at The Atlantic. Why would a magazine like The Atalantic send an overrated hack, like Robert D. Kaplan – unless they had money problems.

It has indeed been a long time that I have seen such bad ideas – so well packaged and written.

I don’t like the premise of your argument. In fact – even the idea to put the genocide of the native Americans, Romas or Australian aborigines in the same category of the riots that took place in Gujarat is shameful.

Additionally – your statement – …that Mr.Modi can get away with the Gujarat riots… suggests you are saying that he was somehow responsible for those riots – and you are simply disagreeing with Kaplan’s ideas as to how he can “get away”…

…your strong anti-BJP bias, hopefully fed by the maya of the media, had faded since you wrote this over a year ago!

    Galeo Rhinus :

    Exactly the point!

The Anglo-Saxon Bloc in specific and the West have issued apologies for their genocides. And Robert Kaplan wants Modi to do that! Assuming he is guilty, they are still not in the same ‘class’!

Additionally – your statement – …that Mr.Modi can get away with the Gujarat riots… suggests you are saying that he was somehow responsible for those riots – and you are simply disagreeing with Kaplan’s ideas as to how he can “get away”…

Narendra Modi’s actions during the Gujarat riots have been errors of omission – if not commission.

But I am surprised at the way the Government and the Courts are targetting him! How is that only he and his cohorts will be ‘if ever’, punished. This is discriminatory! Provoking riots, killing innocents, causing losses and damaged is the fundamental right of politicians!

What about the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. How come no one is doing anything about that?

…your strong anti-BJP bias, hopefully fed by the maya of the media, had faded since you wrote this over a year ago!

Communal riots in India have been engineered by the British, by the Congress, Muslim League (under Jinnah), and the BJP. Of course, this has never been proven in a court of law! So one can keep disputing this ad infinitum.

Of course, the Congress record on this is a clear ‘market leader’ – for instance the Sikh riots in 1984 is the real low even by Congress standards.

PS – The fact that I am not pro-BJP does not make me anti-BJP. Just like I am not pro-Congress. 😉

    On the Congress vs BJP

Congress has been in power now for nearly 50 of the 63 years after independence. For Congress, There is a history for everything.

It will need a new party, which can look at many ‘apparent’ issues without history.

Like George Fernandes decided in 1977, that all MNC companies in India must be 60% owned by Indians. IBM walked out of India – and the seeds for the software boom in India were sown.

From 1974, when India did the atomic blast, till 2001, when BJP decided to become overtly nuclear, the Congress was shackled by its past.

The Article 370 /Kashmir will also need a new dispensation (probably BJP) to resolve this. Congress has too much history to look at the future.
