Believing Pakistan …?

Pakistan has cried wolf too many times.

Mainstream media has distorted the Pakistani reality. (Cartoon by Leunig; dated 2006-07-12; source and courtesy - theage.com) Click for larger image.

In the last few months

A few months ago, an alleged CIA operative, Raymond Davis shot dead two people in Lahore. Lahore police arrested him. America claimed diplomatic immunity. Pakistan denied that Davis was an accredited diplomat. Negotiations followed. Western courts award compensation. Shariat courts extort blood money.

The stand-off continued …

The families of the two people killed were finally compensated (better word than blood money). Now this same man has been implicated for brawling in the USA.

A compulsive brawler?

A former CIA contractor who set off a diplomatic furor after killing two men in Pakistan earlier this year is now facing felony assault charges in the U.S. after getting into a fight over a parking spot.

The altercation took place Saturday morning, when Raymond Davis, 37 years old, began to argue with another man about a parking space outside a bagel shop in a busy strip mall in the Denver suburb of Highlands Ranch, Colo., authorities said. The dispute escalated and turned into a “physical altercation,” said Sgt. Ron Hanavan of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department. US has worked very hard to bend Pakistan into a failed State. Having 'bought' Paksitani leadership, the West now blames Pakistan for all failures. (Cartoon by Ajit Ninan; on 4th May 2011; source and courtesy - timesofindia.com). Click for source image.

Pakistan’s jigsaw

We have got into a habit of disbelieving Pakistan. Too many false calls of wolf, wolf by Pakistan.

Cynical State Policy by US has bent Pakistan into a global terror hub.

It is Pakistanis who have paid a price for the creation of Pax Americana.

What of Free World’s media complicity? Human cost?

What of all those killings in Pakistan?

Actually, more Americans killed by guns in US than in Pakistan. No comfort to US victims that they are not killed by jehadis

So, what the real story

Oil to India is US$trillion prize. To the oil game, now add a bonus – narcotics.

How Pakistani politics and terrorism is related to Oil and Drugs?

leaving aside the cia killer’s sociopathic tendencies,i think the shariah has a pretty good intention with blood money-i would call it just compensation. putting the killer in jail or executing him does nothing for the victim or the family. it just creates more burden on the taxpaying citizen -to pay for caging someone which will solve nothing.
justice should be compensatory and not punitive(like other rules of the shariah).
the somali tribes (following the xeer system) have something similar.
what does the indic justice system say about compensation based justice? i wonder.i am sure they didnt have the hammurabic eye for an eye policy

There is no difference. It is the same idea, with the same roots. The rich can get away by paying money. The poor get their hands or heads chopped off.

Compensation has acquired an aura of justness in recent times due to American awards of billions from mega-corporations.

But behind the story, is again the same old concentration of wealth.

Same story, Different beginnings, Same end.

Solve your problems at local level. A solution that is acceptable to both parties. A jury of five – panchayat decides. Dayabhaga and Mitakshara have given some guidelines on compensation. But an eye-for-an-eye, jails, killings, were never on in India.

you may want to check the xeer (somali) compensation method.it predates islamic law,but it does sound closer to what you describe as local panchayat justice..here the problem of rich being able to payoff doesnt arise, because even if the criminal were rich or poor,it is the whole tribe which has to pay. this ensures that the tribe itself indulges in self policing against reckless activities of its members.
with local justice,i am afraid, the result could sometimes be like the khaap punchayat sort of mob justice. these khaaps have not evolved with time and the simply follow precedence and tradition alone.that is a problem.ideally the men who administer justice should be men of high integrity and wisdom(somethign the xeer places high value on) and not merely people who weild lathis/power.
